Imaging Sonar

An imaging Sonar​ is a unique type of tool that fills a role that your typical single or multibeam sonar does not. As the name implies, you get a more full picture of the surfaces with an imaging sonar. These devices can be pointed down like a traditional transducer or pointed ahead on an underwater ROV for inspection purposes. This Blue Robotics image depicts one way these can be used, and an example of how an adjustable scan angle can be tuned for your uses.

Ping 360

The Blue Robotics Ping360 is a mechanical scanning sonar for navigation and imaging. It has a 50 meter (165 foot) range, 300 meter (984 foot) depth rating, and an open-source software interface that makes it a capable tool for ROV navigation and underwater acoustic imaging.

Designed to be used on ROVs for navigation in low-visibility water conditions, but it’s also suited for applications such as inspection, obstacle avoidance, target location and tracking, autonomous systems development, and more!

Cerulean Omniscan 450FS

This imaging sonar has a long 120-meter range and a tall 50-degree vertical beamwidth, making it perfect for identifying and navigating to targets on the seafloor. It includes a mounting bracket and all necessary hardware for quick installation on the BlueROV2. It can be used as a single sonar unit or combined with additional units to enable 2D motion tracking in SonarView

Traditional imaging sonars rely on mechanical scanning to generate an image of the seafloor. The Omniscan 450 FS Imaging Sonar takes a completely different approach—it puts scanning in the hands of the ROV pilot.​​
